At least 16 Palestinian families were forcibly evicted from their homes in Batn al-Hawa, Silwan, in occupied East Jerusalem between 22 and 25 March by the Israeli security forces—the latest episode in the alarming acceleration of Israeli efforts to empty areas surrounding the Old City of Palestinians and replace them with settlers.
Since 7 October 2023, Israel forcibly displaced 28 Palestinian households—around 160 people—from Batn Al Hawa, with a sharp acceleration since early 2025. Dozens more families remain at imminent risk of eviction.
The Israeli government is forcing Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, out of their homes and lands at levels unseen since 1967, raising concerns of ethnic cleansing, racial segregation and apartheid.
The international community must act to put an end to forced displacements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, ensure accountability for violations of international law, and advocate for the realisation of the Palestinians' human rights, including the right to self-determination.
