In response to the #COVID_19 crisis in #Palestine, and with financial support from The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), UN-Habitat Palestine and its implementing partners including Bethlehem, Beit Sahour and Beit Jala municipalities, as well as the Applied Research Institute – Jerusalem (ARIJ, supported 60 vulnerable Palestinian households with #home_gardens which aim at enhancing food security and improving physical and mental wellbeing through urban- and home-based farming initiatives. An additional 30 households were supported with #composting_units to allow them to produce organic fertilizer for higher-quality and safer crops, and which also contribute to reducing food waste. This intervention is enhancing the elderly’s social engagement and physical activity, thereby positively contributing to their physical health as well as their mental health and stress coping in light of the pandemic.
